What is Otaku Treasure?
Otaku Treasure is a blog-based website dedicated to discussing, reviewing, and recommending content from otaku-based fandoms, with a major focus on the official English releases of anime and light novels and a minor focus on manga and visual novels, among other related fandoms/hobbies. Other posts include major news stories in the anime industry (both in Japan and overseas), licensing announcements, pre-order announcements, and promoting new releases of licensed content (anime, light novels, and maybe also manga and visual novels).
About the Founder
Ryan is a Senior undergraduate student earning his Bachelor of Science degree while majoring in Psychology and minoring in Marketing (with a focus on digital marketing). He is also enrolled in his university’s Honors College. Ryan began his journey into the greater otaku fandom at the beginning of his Sophomore year of high school (2012) when he was introduced to anime during a discussion with friends over lunch in the cafeteria. Armed with a list of recommended anime to watch spanning a page and a quarter long, he dove head-first into the world of anime, starting with the dub of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Quickly coming to the conclusion that only watching dubs would greatly restrict his ability to consume new anime, Ryan made the switch from dubs to subs while watching Chrome Shelled Regios. He has since watched around 500 individual anime series according to his MyAnimeList page (as of January 3, 2019).
In the years that followed, Ryan began dabbling in related otaku fandoms, beginning with manga, then visual novels, and finally light novels. He has also attended Anime Central (ACen) multiple times, at which he has cosplayed as Yato from Noragami and Yukihira Souma from Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma (Shokugeki no Souma). In high school, he was the Social Chair of the anime club and even started an anime club at his local library, which quickly became the most popular monthly teen program there and remains so to this day. He even started his own manga scanlation (fan translation) group, which lasted for a few years before everyone got busy with school and work.
In his free time, Ryan enjoys watching anime, reading light novels and web novels, writing fantasy novels, listening to music, writing song lyrics, and making videos of kazoo covers of anime songs from the currently airing season. His current favorite anime is Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-; his favorite manga is The World God Only Knows; his favorite light novel series is a three-way tie between Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, Infinite Dendrogram, and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom; and his favorite visual novel is the Fragment’s Note series. After he graduates from college, Ryan plans to work in the digital marketing field and self-publish the novels he writes on the side while continuing to make kazoo cover videos of anime songs. He is also considering learning to play the violin to do violin covers as well.
